Support District 39 Schools
Wilmette Friends reports that in December 2017, the Wilmette District 39 School Board must enact its annual levy to fund our elementary schools, Highcrest Middle School and Wilmette Junior High.
Though historically this vote has not been controversial, this year our treasured local schools are being targeted by efforts to pressure the school board to opt-out of a cost-of-living extension of the school levy. Extending the levy to align with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) allows D39’s budget to maintain pace with inflation, as the cost of materials and services increases year over year – just like groceries. Simply put, failing to extend the levy would be a cut to school funding.
