Wilmette’s Attempted Poaching of Hecky’s BBQ

Wilmette attempted to lure Hecky’s BBQ, a veritable Evanston institution, to Wilmette, where employers are no longer required to pay $10/hr or provide earned sick leave.

Trustee Joel Kurzman and at least one of our Wilmette Justice Team members requested that the village stop this practice.  The village rejected these requests, and stood behind their behavior as normal activity.  Trustee Kurzman responded that this de-legitimizes the upcoming study process, and that he considers any business that relocates to Wilmette in the interim as having been poached.
